The Nigerian Telecommunications (NITEL) now Nigeria's External Communications Operations (NEM) House stands as the tallest building nationwide.
Located in Lagos, Nigeria, the 160 meters (525 feet) building has 32 floors, office space, and a communication equipment spire.
Checks show that the NEM House was designed by British architects Nickson and Borys and later constructed by Costain Group.
In 1979 when it was completed, it was used as a lighthouse beacon for Lagos Harbour as it was said to be the tallest building in West Africa at that time.
Further checks show that the property was constructed using reinforced concrete frame, which is a common practice while building tall structures in that era.
Other features of the property include a tall, sturdy mast designed to support heavy telecommunication and broadcasting equipment.
Although currently, the Champagne Pearl in Eko Atlantic, built in 2017, harbours more (34) however, it is not the tallest building in Nigeria because it's only 134 m (440 ft), as such the NEM House still remains the tallest building in the country.
Other tall buildings in the country include Abuja World Trade Center tower, Central Bank headquarters building, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Building (NNPC), Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos, Transcorp Hilton Abuja among others.
