Nigeria: Four Docked Over Theft of Intoxicants, Children's School Bags in Ekiti

The police in Ekiti State have arraigned four people, Efoghe Friday, 28, Awalu Shehu, 25, Isah Sanni, 25, and Yusuf Mannir, 27, before an Ado-Ekiti magistrates' court in Ado-Ekiti over alleged theft of beer and some children's school bags.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sofia Adeniyi, said on November 13, at about 1am at Ado-Ekiti, the suspects broke into the shop of one Hannah Moses to steal the items.

Inspector Adeniyi said on the same date, time and place, Efoghe Friday did steal children's school bags, digger and shovel, old and new pots, unbreakable plates, beer and alcoholic drinks valued at N132,000, property of Hannah Moses.

The prosecutor added that Awalu Shehu, Isah Sanni and Yusuf Mannir on the same date, time and place, did receive stolen items valued at N132,000 from Efoghe Friday, property of Hannah Moses.

Inspector Adeniyi said the offence was punishable under sections 324(1) and (2), 302(1)(a), 343(2)(a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.

Counsels to the defendants, Opaleke, O. J. Abiola and Salaudeen, urged the court to grant their clients bail and Magistrate Dolamu Babalogbon granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 each and adjourned the case to January 9, 2025 for hearing.
