27 November 2024

Popular skit maker, Chukwuemeka Amuzie, widely known as Brain Jotter, has clinched the award for Overall Best Social Media Content Creator.

Brain Jotter rose to prominence after creating a skit based on a 1983 hit song, Gwo gwo gwo ngwo, by legendary highlife singer, Mike Ejeagha, and made it go viral.

The awards also recognised other notable content creators, including comedian Mark Angel, who won the Best Facebook Content Creator award.

Former Big Brother Naija star, Anita Akide, popularly known as Tacha, was named Social Media Influencer of the Year. Additionally, Palmpay received the award for Best Use of Social Media on a Financial Technology Platform, Fintech.

The convener of the awards, Mr. Emmanuel Nwafor, reflected on the event's expanded vision. He stated: "We've gone beyond celebrating achievements in the digital space to actively engaging with society. This year, we introduced charity initiatives, including hospital visits to support patients and donations to charity homes. It's our way of making a broader societal impact."

Mr. Nwafor also highlighted that the 2024 edition of the awards introduced new categories, making it one of the most inclusive editions yet. He emphasized that these additions reflect the evolving dynamics of the digital space, ensuring that all contributors are recognised.

The event also welcomed several celebrities. According to the co-convener, Mr. Maxwell Nzekwe, this year's SMA introduced non-votable awards to honour individuals leveraging social media for philanthropy and societal impact.

"We've recognised influencers, philanthropists and even journalists who use their platforms to promote inspiring stories," he said.

In addition to the awards, SMA 2024 launched impactful charitable programs, such as offsetting hospital bills, offering scholarships, and paying WAEC fees for students in need.

"These initiatives align with our goal to use this platform to touch lives and inspire others," Mr. Nzekwe added.

This year's SMA featured 37 categories, recognizing a wide range of talents, from individual creators to brands.
