Nigeria: Cuba - Embassy Pays Tribute to Fidel Castro

27 November 2024

The Embassy of Cuba in Nigeria on Monday paid tribute to mark the 8th anniversary of the "physical disappearance" of the country's late leader, Fidel Castro Ruz.

Speaking at the occasion, Mrs Miriam Morales Palmero, Cuba's Ambassador to Nigeria, said: "Unity was one of the principles that always prevailed in the thoughts of Commander Fidel, and which remains in force as a strength of our revolutionary process."

She said Fidel's teachings helped Cubans to survive the passage of two hurricanes and an unprecedented earthquake in less than 25 days.

"Fidel's global imprint is undeniable, his timely warning about the risks we would face as a human species, wars, and unlimited overexploitation of both human and natural resources, are stronger today than ever.

"The defence of just causes will continue to be part of his historical legacy for all generations of Cubans. We will follow with great pride each lesson learned both in theory and in practice from our forever leader Fidel and we will continue to defend his work that is ours, the Cuban Revolution, with the certainty that Fidel lives in every corner of the country, and that his presence is eternalised in the people," the envoy said.
