Nigeria: Uzodimma's Critic Picked Up By Gunmen

28 November 2024

Erstwhile ally of Governor Hope Uzodimma, now turned critic, Dr Fabian Ihekweme, has allegedly been picked up by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

Ihekweme served under Uzodimma as state commissioner for foreign affairs.

Mrs Ihekweme, in a trending video, raised the alarm after the gunmen trailed his driver and forced him to lure her husband out to the gate.

In the video, she lamented the trailing of herself and her children by people who said she was not into politics and should be allowed to enjoy her privacy.

Ihekweme, popularly called Omu, the ancient seer, had for weeks exposed Uzodimma's dealings via WhatsApp platforms in the state, wherein he demanded good governance.

For instance, he alleged Uzodimma instructed the bank not to allow local government chairmen to draw more than N10 million, even as appointees were threatened to find out who was giving Ihekweme information.

Only this week, the embattled Ihekweme had raised the alarm about plans to pick him up by security operatives and called on people to hold the governor responsible for his disappearance.

There has been no official statement about Ihekweme's whereabouts, and the police are mum about it.
