Immediate past chairman, Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, and the Obi of Owa, His Majesty, Obi (Dr.) Emmanuel Efeizomor II, has given a Delta State-based lawyer a 48-hour ultimatum to retract an alleged libelous publication against him, and render a public apology or face legation action.
Dr. Efeizomor 11 who is also the Chairman of Delta North Traditional Rulers Forum, said the comments of the lawyer on his person, constituted libel, saying the comments published on social media platforms was not only false but a calculated attempt to lower his enviable reputation and denigrate his personality in the estimation of the right thinking members of the public.
The monarch, in a letter through his counsel, Raymond Isitor addressed to said Barrister, said the comments laced with innuendos were libellous and deliberately calculated to impugn on the public image of the revered monarch.
The letter titled: "a call for the retraction of your libellous content published in a video circulating in all social media platforms in relation to a citizen (name withheld)'s alleged ordeal at the palace of the Obi of Owa on the 6th day of November, 2024, against HRM DR. E.O. Efeizomor11 within 48 hours from the date of receipt of this letter".
The letter read, among others: "We are Solicitors to HRM Dr. E.O Efeizomor 11, the Obi of Owa, whom we shall refer to as our client, and on whose instruction we write herein; Our client is the Obi of Owa and the immediate past chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council. Our client's attention has been drawn to a video recording authored by you castigating our client in relation to an alleged ordeal of a citizen claimed to have suffered at the palace of our client on the 6th day of November 2024."
In your video recording, you published that our client masterminded an alleged attack on the citizen and called for the arrest of our client, and incited violence against our client.
"Your action is well known to you to be false and in bad faith, but you threw caution to the wind to malign our client, and bring our client's enviable reputation to the lowest ebb in the eyes of the public.
"Please note that the said citizen has sworn to an affidavit in suit in respect of the same incident that allegedly took place on the 6th day of November 2024, at our client's palace, but no mention of our client in the said affidavit that validates your published allegation in your video against our client.
