Few months after the release of his debut novel "Behind the Doors of Fate" (2024), Dr. Prince Nduka Alum released yet another un-put-down-able fictionalized true story.
In a grand reception for the itinerant author, the launch of the book titled, "The Girl Child: Rhythms of Destiny", held on Saturday, November 23rd, 2024, at the Enugu North L.G.A Municipal Hall, in the Coal City.
"The Girl Child: Rhythms of Destiny", the second in quick succession for Dr. Prince Nduka Alum, examines in vivid details, the nonnegotiable need for educating the girl-child, a similar theme his debut novel extensively talks about.
The book "is an inspirational and fictionalized true story that everyone will enjoy reading. Set on the heels of the Nigerian civil war, undeterred by her uncle's arrest and detention, Chizoba; the principal character, learns a trade, supports her father, and emerges as a motivator in her university students' governing body. During her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nigeria's turbulent north, she makes unexpected exploits, standing tall among peers. It's a real-life story of determination and resilience inspiring us to transform life's challenges into opportunities for growth.
While addressing newsmen, Dr. Alum, a writer and advocate for social justice said: "My first novel, "Behind the Doors of Fate," touches on gender equality and girl child education. "The Girl Child" delves deeper into these issues, exploring the challenges and triumphs of young women. I'm passionate about amplifying their voices and stories. Alum stated further that Enugu is his hometown and he is glad to be back there. "I wanted to bring this important story to my community. The city's vibrant cultural scene and strong literary tradition make it an ideal setting for this launch. Additionally, Enugu's proximity to the southeastern region, where girl child education and gender equality are pressing concerns, makes it a strategic location for spreading awareness and sparking local conversations. This launch is not just about my book; it's about igniting a movement. I hope "The Girl Child" inspires readers to take action, support girl child education, and advocate for gender equality. By sharing these stories, I aim to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society." He concluded.
Dr. Prince Nduka Alum, born in Enugu, completed his primary and secondary education at Central School, Ngwo and Government Secondary School, Afikpo respectively. He worked briefly as a Clerical Officer at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, supplementing it with running a mini poultry farm and writing didactic drama for youth fellowship activities and school drama for Enugu State Television Authority before proceeding to Italy in 1983 to further his education.
He obtained a first-class Technical Baccalaureate Diploma from the State Agricultural Technical Institute Basile-Caramia of Locorotondo, Italy. He proceeded to the University of Florence, where he graduated summa cum laude from the Faculty of Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture and was awarded the Degree of Doctor in Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture.
