Nigeria: Aiyedatiwa Presents N655.230bn Budget for 2025 Fiscal Year

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has presented a proposed budget of N655.230 billion for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.

Dubbed the "Budget of Recovery," the proposal surpasses the 2024 budget, which was N395.257 billion.

The proposed budget allocates N248.923 billion (37.99%) for recurrent expenditure and N406.307 billion (62.01%) for capital expenditure. Key allocations include:

Infrastructural Development: N238.572 billion (36.40%)

Public Finance: N125.456 billion (19%)

Education: N77.024 billion (11.80%)

Agricultural Development: N56.102 billion (8.60%)

Health: N46.016 billion (7.00%)

Administration of Justice: N18.312 billion (2.80%)

Trade and Industry: N8.839 billion (1.30%)

Environment and Sewage Management: N13.084 billion (2.00%)

General Administration: N34.398 billion (5.20%)

Legislative Administration: N7.636 billion (1.20%)

Energy: N3.742 billion (0.60%)

Key Objectives

Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the budget's focus on addressing socio-economic challenges, infrastructure development, and ensuring prosperity for the people. He outlined key priorities, including:

Enhancing food security

Expanding human capital development

Promoting infrastructure growth

Adopting sustainable economic models, such as the blue economy, renewable energy, and education development

Governor's Remarks

"We have delivered on our promises and now seek to consolidate our gains through the 2025 Budget," the governor stated.

He acknowledged the challenges posed by the global economic downturn and fuel subsidy removal while highlighting his administration's achievements in agriculture, infrastructure, and human capital development.

Governor Aiyedatiwa assured the completion of ongoing projects and pledged to work towards a prosperous future for Ondo State. He also expressed gratitude to the people of Ondo for their overwhelming support during the recent elections and recognized the contributions of his predecessor, the late Rotimi Akeredolu.

In response, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, assured the public of a thorough scrutiny of the budget to ensure it delivers positive impacts for all citizens. He promised an expedited review process to facilitate its implementation.
