The African Development Bank Group, through its Civil Society and Community Engagement Division, will unveil the report from its inaugural Community of Practice (CSECoP) on Tuesday, 15 April 2025, at its headquarters in Abidjan.
The report, culminating from a series of impactful online discussions, will be formally presented to civil society organizations (CSOs) and key stakeholders in Abidjan and online under the theme, Inclusive Budgets and the Global Financial System.
The Bank established the Civil Society Engagement Community of Practice to strengthen stakeholder participation and enhance the impact of its operations in line with its commitment to inclusive and sustainable development. Building on the momentum of the Bank's Annual Meetings in Nairobi, Kenya, in May 2024, the online discussions explored the critical role of civil society in shaping Africa's transformation and reforming the global financial architecture.
In partnership with leading organizations such as Afrobarometer, the International Budget Partnership (IBP), and the West African Civil Society Institute (WACSI), the Community of Practice underscored the urgent need for a more equitable global financial system, increased and accessible development financing, stronger governance frameworks, and a fundamental shift in the development paradigm.
The hybrid event will provide a platform to:
- Deepen Analysis: Examine the key findings and recommendations from the online discussions.
- Inform Policy: Contribute to developing a comprehensive report that will inform AfDB programming and country dialogue.
- Strengthen Engagement: Enhance civil society's role in public financial governance across Africa.
Event Highlights:
- Presentation of the Civil Society Engagement Community of Practice report
- Panel discussions featuring experts from civil society, Bank departments, and partner organizations, including Afrobarometer, IBP, and the African Forum and Network on Debt and Development.
- Interactive session for participants to share insights and observations.
- Announcement of the 2025 CSECoP Theme and participating partners
The event will bring together representatives from key Bank departments - including Governance and Economic Reforms, Capacity Development, Disclosure and Access to Information, Transition States, the African Natural Resources Management and Investment Centre, and civil society organizations (CSOs) working in governance, accountability, transparency, and capacity building.
This report launch represents a significant milestone in strengthening citizen participation in public financial governance and driving meaningful reform. The African Development Bank Group remains committed to empowering civil society as a critical partner in promoting inclusive and sustainable development across Africa.
