Liberia: Ulaa Breaks Ground for Diaspora Resource Center in Liberia During Landmark Visit

Monrovia — The Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA) has concluded a landmark visit to Liberia, highlighted by the groundbreaking ceremony for its first Resource Center in White Plains Township, Montserrado County.

Led by President Mohammed Keita, Vice President Emmanuette Nagbe, and Secretary General Borbi Blopleh, a 47-member ULAA delegation visited Liberia from April 25 to April 27, 2025. The visit marked a major milestone in ULAA's more than 50-year history of representing Liberians in the diaspora and supporting national development efforts.

The Resource Center project, which broke ground on April 27, is expected to serve as ULAA's permanent base in Liberia, providing a hub for diaspora-led development, innovation, advocacy, and community engagement.

ULAA extended appreciation to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for receiving the delegation and reaffirming the importance of diaspora contributions to Liberia's growth. The organization also acknowledged the support and participation of local leaders and community members in White Plains and Louisiana Townships, where more than 200 residents attended the ceremony.

Guest speaker Dr. Thomas Tweh, local government officials, community chiefs, and the Liberian media were also recognized for their roles in making the visit a success. Special appreciation was extended to Hon. Wilson Kanasuah of White Plains, Hon. Moses K. White of Louisiana, and media outlets including LRTN and ELBC for their coverage and support.

Events during the visit included a meet-and-greet, a fundraising dinner at the Ministerial Complex, the groundbreaking event, a rice distribution to more than 150 residents, and a community cookout.

ULAA says the successful mission reinforces its commitment to bridging the gap between the diaspora and Liberia, with a renewed focus on collective responsibility and sustainable impact.

The organization pledged to continue advocating for the rights and dignity of Liberians globally as it works to bring the Resource Center project to full realization.
