In the lead-up to the African Development Bank Group's 2025 Annual Meetings, join us on 21 May 2025 at 9:15 am GMT for a virtual forum titled "Women's Land Rights: A Strategic Investment for Africa's Prosperity and Resilience". The webinar, hosted by the Bank's African Natural Resources Management and Investment Center and the Gender and Women Empowerment Division, will bring together voices from government, civil society, development partners, and financial institutions to examine how securing women's land rights can unlock economic transformation, advance gender equality, and promote climate resilience across Africa.

Why this matters:

Although women produce up to 70 percent of Africa's food, only 13 percent of them are sole landowners. Women's limited access to land hampers their economic potential, limits their access to finance, and undermines efforts toward inclusive growth. Securing land rights for women is not only a matter of social justice, but also a strategic investment in Africa's future.

What to expect:

  • Keynote discussion on the urgency of securing women's land rights
  • Testimonies from grassroots organizations highlighting real-world challenges and innovations
  • Panel discussions featuring experts from the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, the Initiative Prospective Agricole et Rurale and the African Development Bank, exploring the nexus between land rights, food security, and climate resilience
  • A question-and-answer session
