Liberia: Boakai Eulogizes Doe

- Reflects on Nancy Doe legacy

President Joseph N. Boakai on Friday, May 6, 2025, paid a solemn visit to the residence of the late former First Lady of Liberia, Madam Nancy B. Doe, where he extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

Monrovia, June 9, 2025: The visit came days after the announcement of Madam Doe's passing, which has drawn an outpouring of grief across the country.

She was the widow of the late President Samuel K. Doe, Liberia's 21st president.

President Boakai, accompanied by senior officials from the Executive Mansion, was received by members of the Doe family at their 24th Street residence.

The President offered words of comfort and support, emphasizing the late former First Lady's contributions to the nation and the enduring legacy she leaves behind.

"We are here not only as a government, but as fellow citizens and neighbors, to mourn with you and to celebrate the life of a woman who played a significant role in our national history," Boakai narrated.

Madam Nancy B. Doe served as First Lady during one of the most turbulent periods in Liberia's history. Despite the challenges of that era, she was known for her quiet strength, charity work, and commitment to family.

It can be recalled, Liberia mourned the death of former First Lady who passed away at her residence in Sinkor, on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, following a prolonged illness.

The late Madam Doe served as Liberia's First Lady from 1980 to 1990, during the presidency of her husband, Samuel K. Doe, who rose to power through a military coup. During her tenure, she was known for her charitable initiatives and advocacy for rights and welfare of women and children.
