Value-added tax (VAT) remains a major source of revenue in African economies but suffers from compliance gaps, administrative inefficiencies and digital infrastructure challenges. The "Driving Smarter VAT Compliance" seminar will showcase innovative practices in e-invoicing, e-filing, and audit automation, while offering a platform for knowledge sharing among East African countries. The dialogue aims to inform the Bank's ongoing support to tax reforms and to promoting public-private partnerships in the digital tax space.
This seminar will bring together government officials, tax administrators, private sector innovators to explore how digital technologies can enhance the efficiency, transparency, and equity of value-added tax systems across Africa. Panelists will share practical experiences and case studies from successful implementations of VAT digitalization particularly in the East African countries.
The half-day event will facilitate dialogue between tax authorities, private enterprises, and regional organizations to identify collaborative strategies for improving VAT compliance.
The workshop will also highlight the global trends in tax administration digitalization and their implications for African economies.
Join us for this forward-looking conversation on how technology can drive more efficient, inclusive, and resilient tax systems across East Africa -- ultimately empowering governments, businesses, and citizens alike.
