Liberia: Court Freezes Fly's Bank Accounts Over Libel Case

Gbarnga, Bong County — The Ninth Judicial Circuit Court in Bong County has ordered a freeze on all bank accounts belonging to the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY).

The order was issued by Resident Circuit Judge, His Honor J. Boima Kontoe, pending the outcome of a libel lawsuit filed against the FLY leadership.

The action follows a complaint filed by Abraham Kollie, Bong County Coordinator of FLY, against Janica S. Elliott, President of FLY; Abdullah D. Bility, Vice President for International Affairs; Emmanuel Tamba; Rosetta Gboto Fardolo, Secretary General; and other unnamed executives.

On May 21, 2025, the court issued a writ of summons, commanding the defendants to appear on May 31, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., to respond to the complaint. The summons also instructed the defendants to file their formal appearance or answer with the Clerk of Court. Failure to comply, it stated, would result in a default judgment.

Court documents indicate that the defendants did not appear or file the required response within the mandated period. As a result, on June 25, 2025, the court issued a stay order halting all electoral activities related to the 2025 FLY elections.

In a related directive, the court ordered the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) to freeze the Federation's accounts until the final determination of the case.
