Nigeria: Algon Mourns Buhari, LG Chairmen

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has mourned the passing of former president, Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as a great national loss.

The association in a communique issued at the end of the National Executive Council meeting held in Niger State and signed by the national publicity secretary, Anani Hamisu yesterday extolled Buhari's leadership qualities.

It said he would be greatly missed, especially as ALGON remembers his love for local governments and the populace.

They also mourned the passing of two local government chairmen, Hon. Lawal Yau'u of Gumel LGA of Jigawa State and Hon. Aminu Hamidu of Bakori LGA of Katsina State and other deceased members, praying for consolation of their families and departed souls to rest in peace.

The communique said during the meeting, Hon. Ikenna Adikibe, chairman of Oru West LGA of Imo State was elected the new deputy national president of ALGON.

ALGON also reaffirmed the commitment of the 774 LGAs to promoting good governance, accountability and good primary healthcare delivery.
