The African Development Bank, Human Right 2 Water and Water Research Commission will host a webinar to share insights and best practices from a joint publication titled, Water Policies to Support Investment in Humans and Nature: A Compilation of Good Practices in Africa.

Water is a basic human right but delivering equitable and sustainable access remains a persistent challenge. The webinar will present findings from the report, exploring how human rights-based approaches can strengthen investments in water and sanitation in Africa.

The webinar will also examine how legal frameworks and real-world case studies from Africa, illustrate the value of human rights-based approaches in addressing water and sanitation needs, particularly for marginalised and vulnerable communities.

Expected participants such as government representatives, legal experts, development practitioners, and civil society representatives from across the continent will discover how to integrate human rights principles into water policy and legislative frameworks for more inclusive, participatory, and resilient outcomes. Webinar attendees can expect:

  • An introduction to the human-rights based framework and its relevance to water policy
  • Case studies from countries including Senegal, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Chad, and South Africa
  • Practical insights on how to embed human rights-based principles such as non-discrimination, participation, accountability, and sustainability in water-related projects
  • Actionable insights to support community-led project development, inclusive stakeholder engagement, and long-term water security through ecosystem approaches

This webinar is an opportunity to understand the role of legal tools and rights-based planning in improving the design and implementation of water sector programs and investments. To join the conversation, register here.
