An Abuja boy, Abdullahi Muhammad, who went missing for eight months and was later found in Aba, Abia State, has been awarded a scholarship covering his education from primary school through university.
Abuja Metro had previously reported on the seven-year-old boy's disappearance, stating he was allegedly abducted by human traffickers from Dakwa town in the Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
Officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) found Abdullahi on May 18. He was subsequently brought to the NSCDC's national headquarters in Abuja by the agency's area commander for the Aba zone, ACC Vanger Scholastica, where he was reunited with his mother last week.
A member of the Ihsan Scholarship Foundation (ISF), a charitable organization based in Kano, who wished to remain anonymous, said the organization decided to sponsor Abdullahi's education after reading about his story in the July 23 edition of Daily Trust newspaper.
The ISF member contacted Abdullahi's mother, Hauwau Yakubu, through this reporter to inform her about the scholarship. Hauwau, a native of Kano State, who works at a restaurant in the Dakwa community of Abuja following the death of Abdullahi's father some years ago, confirmed the development to our reporter.
In a phone interview yesterday, Hauwau expressed her gratitude to the foundation and offered prayers for their continued progress.
