The African Union Commission, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and the African Development Bank will jointly host the ClimDev-Africa Phase II Planning Workshop from July 30 to 1 August 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya. The workshop will bring together core partners, technical experts, and regional stakeholders to strengthen Africa's climate resilience.

The Climate for Development in Africa (ClimDev-Africa) programme, launched in 2011, has significantly enhanced Africa's climate resilience through improved climate information services, early warning systems, and integrated policy support. With Phase I now concluded, phase II aims to build on the now concluded first phase by sharpening focus on governance, resource mobilization, and alignment with emerging needs.

Workshop participants are expected to review the outcomes and lessons from Phase I, discuss institutional reforms to strengthen the programme's governance and operational delivery and develop a joint roadmap to mobilize an estimated $191 million in resources to support programme implementation. The African Development Bank, the African Union Commission and the Economic Commission for Africa will also use the event to reinforce coordination.

The workshop, which is taking place ahead of the 2nd Africa Climate Summit (ACS-II) as well as COP30, is designed to generate outcomes that build consensus around a unified African position on climate engagement. The event reaffirms ClimDev-Africa's role as a central pillar in the continent's climate architecture.

Participation is by invitation only. Media access is limited to the opening session, with opportunities for pre-arranged interviews with key representatives.
