What: Launch of Partial Credit Guarantee Project in Tanzania

The Africa Fertilizer Financing Mechanism, a special fund administered by the African Development Bank Group, will launch a partial credit guarantee project on 7 August 2025 to boost fertilizer access for 550,000 smallholder farmers in Tanzania.

The project will provide a $2 million partial trade credit guarantee to fertilizer suppliers and distributors, facilitating the delivery of 60,000 tons of fertilizers. It also aims to strengthen the fertilizer distribution network and provide training to farmers on soil health and good agricultural practices.

The official launch ceremony will feature the following speakers:

  • Patricia Laverley, Country Manager, African Development Bank

  • James Mutonyi, East Africa Regional Director, African Fertilizer Agribusiness Partnership

The event will take place during the annual Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition in Dodoma. The Mechanism will also host an information booth to showcase its range of financial products. The 2025 Nane Nane theme is "Visionary Leadership for a Resilient Future: Advancing Sustainability of Agricultural Ecosystems."

Following the launch, the Mechanism and its partners will undertake field missions to the Mbeya and Mwanza regions from 11 to 15 August to ensure project readiness for implementation.
