Liberia: Rep. Benson Unveils U.S.$650,000 Resource and Recreation Project

Brewerville — Montserrado County District 17 Representative, Bernard Benson, has officially unveiled a US$650,000 resource and recreation project for constituents of his district.

The project, which comprises an E-library, football pitch, basketball court, playground, canteen, rest rooms, dressing room, and picnic area, was unveiled at a news conference held in Brewerville, outside Monrovia on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

The project named and styled: Vision 2030 is expected to be dedicated in 2030.

According to him, the project would be supported from the district's allotment of County and Social Development Funds.

He promised to reach out to eminent citizens and developmental partners residing and operating abroad and, in the district, to support the initiative.

Benson denied speculations that the unveiling of the project is a well calculated plan to solicit votes from his constituents ahead of the 2029 Presidential and Legislative Elections.

"2030 is considered as the timeline for the project to be presented looking at the huge financial cost. We have to source income to do it. However, we hope this could be done or completed before 2030. This is not a political tool for my re-election or whatever."

He said a steering committee composed of eminent citizens would be established to scout out support and spearhead the implementation of the project in various phases.

Benson maintained that the project belongs to his constituents and as such, they must take full ownership of it.

"This project is for the district and so, we are encouraging eminent citizens to come and be a part of it. We look forward to holding a fundraising rally for the project in December this year and there will officially be a groundbreaking ceremony."

According to him, the project would be constructed at the roundabout leading towards the Hotel Africa Road in the Red Hill Field Community, outside Monrovia.

Benson expressed the hope that the construction of the project would help address the involvement of young people into the abuse of drugs and other harmful substances in the district.

He stressed that young people residing in the district would now have the opportunity to carry out research in the library and play various games with their peers following the completion of the project.

"Throughout my political sojourn, I have always thought about e-library. This facility will give our young people options. Once you have a vision for a program, the implementation is easy and this is what our citizens want to see. Our people have all embraced this project and this will benefit the district as a whole. Before I even entered politics, I always had the vision of that particular area becoming a recreational park."

He added that upon completion, the project would be managed by the leadership of the Virginia Township in collaboration with the leadership of the Red Hill Field Community.
