Nigeria: Army to Conduct Range Classification Exercise in Kogi

The 12 Brigade Nigerian Army headquarters yesterday announced the commencement of its second annual range classification exercise from August 25-28, 2025 at the Chari Maigumeri shooting range in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The acting assistant director of public relations of the brigade, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, announced this yesterday in Lokoja on behalf of the commander, Brig. -Gen. Kasim Sidi.

According to Abdullahi, the exercise aims to sharpen the shooting skills of officers and soldiers, as well as ascertain the serviceability of weapons.

He urged the public, particularly residents of Shettima, Zango and environs not to panic on hearing gunshots and seeing heavy movement of troops and equipment during the exercise.

He advised them to stay away from the range area throughout the exercise.

"The range classification exercise is an essential part of the Nigerian Army's training program designed to ensure that officers and soldiers maintain a high level of proficiency in their shooting skills. The exercise will also help to identify any issue with the serviceability of weapons to enable the army take corrective action," he said.

"Locals are advised to stay away from the range area throughout the exercise. The Commander 12 Brigade and Force Commander Operation Accord III, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi appreciates the usual cooperation of the public and requested that it continues during the exercise," Abdullahi said.
