The African Development Bank Group will host a four-day training programme and policy dialogue focused on strengthening natural resource governance across fragile and transitional African countries under the Governing Natural Resource Outflows for Enhanced Economic Resilience in Fragile and Transitional Countries (GONAT) Project.
GONAT is a flagship initiative of the Bank's African Natural Resources Management and Investment Centre, designed to address critical challenges in natural resource management across the continent.
This training programme, led by the African Development Institute, addresses urgent continental challenges related to natural resource governance, with particular focus on countries experiencing fragility and transition. The GONAT initiative aims to build sustainable capacity for monitoring, analyzing, and governing natural resource sectors while promoting transparency and accountability.
The training and policy dialogue will focus on combating illicit trade in natural resources as well as other key actions such as enhancing oversight of resource-backed loans, supporting evidence-based decision-making for sustainable development, and debt management strategies.
The Governing Natural Resource Outflows for Enhanced Economic Resilience in Fragile and Transitional Countries Project represents the African Development Bank's commitment to supporting African countries in maximizing the benefits from their natural resources while minimizing associated risks and ensuring sustainable economic development.
The project is implemented as part of the Bank's broader strategy to support natural resource governance and economic resilience in African countries.
