Nigeria: My Political Base Intact - Ex-Kaduna Guber Candidate

28 August 2025

The Kaduna State PDP Gubernatorial Candidate in the 2023 election, Isa Ashiru, has disclosed that his political base in Kudan and across the state is still intact.

Ashiru said his attention had been drawn to a report published in a national daily (Not LEADERSHIP) that he was losing key allies.

In a statement he issued yesterday, Ashiru said his name was mentioned in the story. He added that the report was misleading and a clear reflection of the kind of fictional narrative desperate political actors relied on to gain fleeting relevance.

"To claim that my political base in Kudan is crumbling is a laughable distortion of reality. Contrary to the claims made by Alhaji Yunusa Chiroma, the Special Adviser on Political Matters and Stakeholders Engagement to the Chairman of Kudan Local Government, the facts on the ground speak a very different language.

"Let me state unequivocally: my political clout in Kudan remains solid, unwavering, and grounded in the trust and confidence of the people who know my track record. Just recently, over 300 members of the APC defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kyaudai Sabon Gari Ward, ironically, the ward of the very Chairman whose adviser now boasts of a so-called "consolidated hold" on Kudan politics."

That singular event is not just symbolic; it is an undeniable demonstration of where the political momentum truly lies," Ashiru said.

According to him, Leadership is not built on propaganda, nor is political relevance determined by social media statements or press releases from political appointees.

"Real political strength lies in consistent service, connection with the grassroots, and the ability to inspire hope, qualities that I continue to embody in my relationship with the good people of Kudan and beyond.

"This attempt to undermine my standing and question my viability as a gubernatorial candidate is weak and fundamentally flawed. If anything, it signals the growing fear within the ranks of the APC, as they watch the PDP regain its strength and public confidence across the state.

"I, Isah Ashiru Kudan, urge the media to rise above being used as a tool for political witch-hunting and instead commit to factual and balanced reporting. Let it be known: I remain firmly in control of my constituency, and my resolve to deliver progressive leadership for Kaduna State remains as strong as ever," the statement added.
