Nigeria: Schools Resume Tomorrow in Abia

21 September 2025

Private and public schools in Abia State resume tomorrow across the state for the 2025/2026 Academic Session.

The commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi stated this yesterday in a statement in Umuahia, the capital.

The statement enjoined parents and guardians to release their children and wards to school as effective teaching and learning would commence in earnest.

He explained that the first term midterm break would be observed from November 5 to 9 while the term will end on December 12.

The commissioner also advised the schools to adhere strictly to the calendar as approved by the government, warning that defaulters will face the consequences

He urged the newly recruited 5,349 teachers by the government to report to their place of posting, though he posting has been followed by complaints.

At the end of a 12-day capacity training organised for the teachers ahead of the date, Ubochi had stressed that they should report as directed.

"Whether your problems have been addressed or not, please do well to report to whoever you are posted," he said.
