The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC), in partnership with the African Forum for Utility Regulators (AFUR), has commenced a four-day training workshop on the Mini-Grid Tariff Tool and Methodology aimed at strengthening the country's electricity sector.

The training brings together key stakeholders from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Liberia Electricity Corporation, Environmental Protection Agency , Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and representatives of mini-grid operators including Totota Electric Cooperative and Energicity.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Commissioner Amara M. Kamara said the training represents a critical milestone in promoting transparency, data-driven decision-making, and cost-reflective tariffs.

He noted that these elements are essential to attracting private sector investment and expanding reliable electricity access across Liberia. "This initiative supports Liberia's goal of achieving 75% national electricity access by 2030, up from the current 32%," Commissioner Kamara stated.

According to the LERC, the workshop will enhance collaboration among regulators, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure the development of sustainable off-grid energy solutions throughout the country.

The training forms part of LERC's ongoing efforts to build technical capacity within the electricity sector and foster policies that promote affordability, efficiency, and inclusiveness in power distribution.
