Nigeria: Media Team Calls for Informed Narratives to Drive Social Progress

4 November 2025

A network of media volunteers, under the aegis of Fancy Media Team (FMT) has emphasised on deeper understanding of government policies and programmes to refine narratives for a better society.

The Leader of the FMT, Sanni Abubakar Suleiman disclosed this in his address at the closing ceremony of a two-day Media Engagement and Capacity Building Workshop organized by the group in Lokoja at the weekend.

He said the workshop was designed to equip the members with deeper understanding of government policies and programs in order to empower the group to communicate more effectively to advance the vision of the present administration under, governor Usman Ahmed Ododo.

The event drew participants from across the state, including Public Affairs Analysts, representatives of government, civil society groups, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Kogi State chapter, among others.

The team Leader, Suleiman, described the workshop as "a defining moment" for the group, and a platform to deepen its commitment to the vision of the present administration in its attempt to distribute dividends of democracy to the people of the state .

"But beyond politics, this program also opens a second path to prepare our youth for life beyond politics; to make them media-savvy, creative, and employable in a digital world.

"In the words of Nelson Mandela, 'Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." That is exactly what we aim to achieve here through knowledge and understanding", he said.

The group said barely two years in office , Governor Ododo's administration has achieved enough in infrastructure, education, healthcare delivery, agriculture, and youth empowerment that draw their applause.

In particular, the FMT noted the governor's proactive approach to security and peacebuilding, which, it said, has stabilized communities across the state.

According to Suleiman, FMT was born out of conviction, stressing that the group will continue to promote the vision of hope, unity, and progress for the State, as shown by the narrative of the present administration.

However, the group appealed to governor Ododo to support the team in its ongoing efforts to contribute its own quota to the vision of the administration, including training young people in digital communication.

In a unanimous decision, the group passed a vote of confidence on President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governor Usman Ahmed Ododo , commending their "people-centered leadership, bold economic reforms, and infrastructure drive" that is set to improve the welfare of the citizens .

FMT added that in view of the developmental posture of the present administration at the federal level and kogi state , it has declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to continue in office beyond 2027.

Meanwhile, FMT described Hon. Siyaka Yakubu Adabenege as "a humanitarian and visionary leader", for his support and mentorship.

"He believed in us when others overlooked us, financed us when others doubted our relevance, and inspired us when we felt weary", said Suleiman.

In his remarks, Hon. Siyaka Yakubu Adabenege commended the team for its consistency and professionalism, noting that FMT has become "a household name in Kogi and beyond" due to its innovative media engagement.

He reaffirmed his commitment to youth development, praising Governor Ododo's inclusive governance style; even as he emphasized that "youth empowerment remains at the heart of the administration's agenda".

He expressed confidence that the workshop would "further sharpen their skills in marketing the administration's achievements".

The two-day event has Public Affairs Analyst, Mr. Majeed Dahiru, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Hon. Ismaila Isah and others as resource persons .
