The Independent Development Evaluation (IDEV) function of the African Development Bank Group will host a side event during COP30 in Belém, Brazil, to present evaluative findings and lessons showcasing how evidence can inform the scaling up of effective, equitable, and sustainable climate action in Africa.

The session titled Evidence for Climate and Development in Africa: A Cross-Sectoral Synthesis, will present evidence and insights across key sectors including energy, water, transport and agriculture. It will also explore how proven approaches can help translate global commitments into measurable development results.

During the event, IDEV will launch its new knowledge product, "Evidence for Climate and Development in Africa: An AfDB Cross-Sectoral Evaluative Knowledge Synthesis." The publication distils over a decade of evaluations into ten key evidence-based messages and sector insights across energy, agriculture and food systems, water, transport, cities and finance, with cross-cutting implications for policy, financing and implementation.

A downloadable PDF will be available on the IDEV website.

Expected outcomes include stronger evidence-based policymaking, enhanced collaboration among multilateral development banks and evaluation networks, and the identification of scalable pathways to accelerate Africa's climate and development progress.

All sessions will be streamed live on the Bank Group's COP30 Brazil Amazonia microsite.
