Nigeria: Ned Nwoko Denies Marrying Regina At Age 17

Delta North lawmaker, Senator Ned Nwoko, has refuted the claims that he married actress Regina Daniels when she was 17 years old, describing the allegations as completely false and misleading.

Senator Nwoko, in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Thursday, explained that he took deliberate steps to verify Regina's age before their marriage.

"When I met Regina, I asked about her age, and she told me she was 21. I went further to request a document to confirm this, and she presented her INEC voter's card, which showed she was born on October 10, 1998," Nwoko stated.

He said that after verifying the information, he decided to keep the voter's card for record purposes, a document he said to still be in his possession.

According to Nwoko, an interview Regina's mother granted the BBC shortly after their marriage also confirmed that her daughter was of legal age at the time.

"Our marriage took place six years ago, which means Regina is 27 years old today. Any claim that I married her at 17 is false and should be disregarded," he maintained.

The senator urged the public to treat Regina's recent claims with caution, suggesting that her statements might not reflect the true situation.

"The facts are verifiable and clear. Until proper checks are made, I advise the public to approach her allegations with caution, especially considering her current mental state, having started but not completed rehabilitation for drug addiction," he added.

Efforts by LEADERSHIP to reach Regina for her response were unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.
