Nigeria: Bauchi Lifts Acf North-East Unity Cup

Bauchi state football team has won the 2025 North-East Unity Football Tournament after defeating their Gombe opponent 3 -1 on penalties.

The competition is being organised by the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), as part of activities to mark its 25th Anniversary.

The keenly contested match ended 1-1 at regulation time before Bauchi triumphed in the penalty shootout to lift the zonal trophy in the final held on Wednesday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi,

Dr Abubakar Fakai, Chairman of the competition, congratulated Bauchi state for winning the North-East edition.

He said winners from the zones would converge in Kaduna to compete for the overall title during the grand finale of the tournament.

According to Fakai, the anniversary will feature the unveiling of N100 billion endowment fund, aims to alleviate youth unemployment and promote empowerment in the 19 northern states.

He commended the state government for the successful hosting of the competition.

Also, Adamu Gabarin, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, lauded the initiative, and expressed optimism that the state team would emerge the overall champion of the competition.

He reiterated government's commitment to advance sports and youth development to foster unity.
