Nigeria: PDP Wins All Seats Unopposed in Taraba LG Polls

12 November 2025

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has swept all chairmanship and councillorship seats in the local government elections conducted across Taraba State's 16 local government areas on Saturday, after running unopposed.

Chairman of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC), Dr Philip Duwe, announced the results on Sunday, declaring PDP candidates winners in all the chairmanship and councillorship contests.

Duwe said the elections were free, fair, and transparent, and were held in a peaceful atmosphere across the state.

"The election was peaceful, transparent, and reflected the wishes of the electorate," he said.

Before the polls, seven political parties had withdrawn from the race, citing objections to the electoral guidelines issued by the commission.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), which initially challenged the guidelines in court, later withdrew its case, citing the planned defection of Governor Agbu Kefas and other PDP members to the APC as part of its reasons.

All the elected chairmen and councillors were subsequently presented with certificates of return by the state electoral commission yesterday.
