The Division of Economic Policy, Macroeconomic and Financial Sector Policy, Department of Economic Management, of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning on Tuesday began a five-day working session to write the Annual Economic Review (AER) of 2024 in Gompa City, Nimba County.
The AER is an annual economic assessment that draws up a clear roadmap backed by statistics on the major global, regional, and domestic performance of the economy. It reviews the progress of the national economy. It highlights results and achievements over the past year, areas of growth and potential risks to the economy, to promote evidence-based development policy and intervention.
At the start of the sessions, Assistant Minister for Economic Policy, Macroeconomic and Financial Sector Policy, Henry D.Z. Yanquoi who also represented Deputy Minister for Economic Management Dehpue Zuo explained that the AER serves as a platform to evaluate Liberia's economic performance.
The review, he said, focuses on critical indicators such as GDP growth, inflation, fiscal and monetary trends, climate-related financial impacts, and sector-specific developments in agriculture, fisheries, manufacturing and industry, mining, labor force, infrastructure, among others.

Speaking earlier, a proxy for Gompa City Mayor welcomed the delegates to his city. He termed the AER as a commitment of the government to transparency and accountability.
Mr. A. Saye Dolo said the decentralization of such an important function is intended to meet the expectations of the Liberian people through promoting progress and identifying the challenges for corrective measures.
For his part, Assistant Minister for Planning and Research Abraham Rahim Bility of the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) highlighted the importance of his ministry as it is responsible for one of the constraints to growth-road.
He further indicated that relevant data from the ministry will be available in order to write and analyze the performance of the critical role his ministry plays in the growth of the economy.
Also speaking, the Assistant Minister for Statistics and Research Jackson F. Wolobah expressed his gladness of the working session. Wolobah believes the Annual Economic Review is critical for national growth and progress.
Officials and technicians from several Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions are attending the sessions.
