Nigeria: Delta Police Recover N36m Ransom, 144 Firearms, Arrest 627 Suspects in 2025

The Delta State Police Command has rolled out its major operational successes between January and December 2025, including the recovery of ₦36 million paid as ransoms.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the figures in a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday.

According to SP Edafe, operatives of the command recovered a total of 144 sophisticated firearms, comprising 27 AK-47 rifles, 36 pump-action guns, 25 Beretta pistols and 56 locally-made cut-to-size guns.

"From January to December 2025, the Delta State Police Command recovered a total of 144 sophisticated firearms and arrested 627 suspects for various offences," Edafe stated.

He added that a total of 6,930 rounds of ammunition were also recovered during various operations across the state.

Providing a breakdown of arrests made within the period, he said a total of 627 suspects were arrested for various offences, including 140 suspects arrested for armed robbery and 113 were apprehended in connection with kidnapping cases.

Edafe further disclosed that 125 suspects were arrested for murder-related offences, 187 for cultism, and 62 for rape and defilement.

"A ransom sum of ₦36,000,000 was also recovered," he added.
