The handover ceremony was attended by senior government officials, including Minister of Commerce and Industry Magdalene E. Dagoseh, Minister of State without Portfolio Hadja Mamaka Bility, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Cllr. Jeddi Mowbray Armah, and Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Tanue Jeke, along with development partners and other distinguished guests.
Speaking at the event, the Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwa said the food assistance was a concrete outcome of the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), during which Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and announced the support. The official emphasized that the delivery reflects China's commitment to honoring its pledges and carries the goodwill of the Chinese people toward Liberia.
According to the Chinese Envoy, the consignment is expected to help ease food shortages and provide tangible relief to vulnerable populations across the country.
The donation also underscores China's long-standing support for Liberia's food security efforts. Over the years, China has provided several rounds of food assistance to Liberia, with the latest consignment aligning with China's broader development priorities. As China prepares to implement its 15th Five-Year Plan for economic and social development, food security remains a central pillar of its domestic and international cooperation agenda.
Amb. Yin noted that the assistance goes beyond humanitarian relief, describing it as part of a broader vision to help partner countries build resilient, sustainable food systems. The gesture was further described as a reflection of the strategic partnership between China and Liberia, grounded in mutual support and shared development goals.
Addressing global challenges such as food insecurity and climate change, the official stressed that no country can prosper in isolation, calling for collective action and shared responsibility to promote global peace and sustainable development.
Looking ahead, China reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with Liberia under the FOCAC framework, aligning development strategies, and expanding collaboration across multiple sectors.
He expressed optimism that continued partnership would contribute to a future free from hunger and marked by shared prosperity between the two countries.
