Nigeria: Davido Projects Asake, Rema, Omah Lay As Next Afrobeats 'Goats'

18 December 2025

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has identified Asake, Rema, and Omah Lay as the leading Nigerian artists he believes have the potential to attain "greatest of all time" (GOATs) status in Nigeria's music industry.

The award-winning singer made the remarks on Wednesday during an appearance on comedian Carter Efe's Twitch livestream, excerpts of which have since gone viral on social media.

When asked to name the next possible "GOAT" in Afrobeats, Davido said the trio stood out based on their consistency, impact and growing global influence.

"Right now, for me, I'd say between Asake, Omah Lay or Rema. If you ask me, I think they've done exceptionally well," he said.

Davido clarified that his assessment was limited to male artistes, while also acknowledging the achievements of prominent female stars in the industry.

"Obviously, we have Tems, Ayra Starr and others. I'm talking about males. Those three are killing it," he added.

Speaking further, the singer praised the artistes for their international reach and visibility, noting that their success beyond Nigeria was awe-inspiring.

"Omah Lay is my brother. I love Rema so much. I have a lot of love for Asake as well. They're all doing amazingly well," Davido said.

Emphasising their global impact, he added that seeing their presence abroad underscored how far Nigerian music has travelled.

"Especially globally. Being in America and seeing them everywhere--it's amazing. It's not easy," he said.

Widely regarded as one of Afrobeats' most influential figures, Davido has consistently stressed the importance of legacy and global relevance as Nigerian music continues to gain mainstream acceptance worldwide.
