Ikenga stated that the arrest was carried out on January 7 by operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka.

He dismissed as false the rumors circulating that the crime was committed by creditors to whom the suspect owed money.

The police spokesperson said that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to stabbing the victim in the neck with a knife, an act that led to her death.

He explained that the incident occurred on December 9, 2025.

According to Ikenga, the suspect confessed to committing the act over suspicions of infidelity.

The suspect further claimed that his significant financial investment in the victim had left him bankrupt and emotionally distressed, ultimately leading to the fatal act.

To evade suspicion, the suspect also confessed to leaving a fake letter at the scene, claiming he had been kidnapped by creditors.

Ikenga noted that as part of the ongoing investigation, detectives have visited the morgue where the deceased's body was deposited.

He added that the tragic incident has sparked outrage and renewed conversations around domestic violence and relationship-related crimes within the community.

According to the statement, "The command, therefore, urges the public to seek lawful and peaceful means of resolving disputes and to report early signs of domestic violence to security agencies to prevent avoidable tragedies." (NAN)
