The Adamawa State Government, in collaboration with key stakeholders in the education sector, has intensified efforts to boost school enrolment across the state, urging the 21 local government council chairmen to take the lead in mobilising communities.
The call was made by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, at a stakeholders' meeting chaired by the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta.
Dr. Pella explained that the meeting was aimed at reviewing the achievements recorded under the state's ongoing educational reforms and renewing commitment to improved service delivery as the year 2026 progresses.
He reiterated that education remains a top priority of the present administration, describing it as a critical catalyst for human and societal development. According to him, the state government has devolved the ownership and management of schools to local government councils to ensure that teaching and learning take place in a safe, secure and conducive environment.

The commissioner said council chairmen have been directed to spearhead school enrolment drives in their respective areas to ensure that all school-age children are enrolled. He noted that increased enrolment would strengthen the sustainability of government investments in educational infrastructure and learning facilities across the state.
Dr. Pella further emphasised that free and compulsory education is the right of every child in Adamawa State, urging parents and guardians to take full advantage of the policy by enrolling their children in school.
He also informed parents and guardians that schools across the state have resumed, with academic activities commencing on January 5, 2026.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Yahyaji Mijinyawa, commended the government's transformational initiatives in the education sector and stressed the importance of enrolling children, particularly in the newly constructed model schools across the 21 local government areas.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Song Local Government Area and Secretary of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Adamawa State, Hon. Idris Yahya, pledged the commitment of local government chairmen to effectively implement government policies and programmes aimed at advancing education and overall human development in the state.
