Nigeria: Fire Guts Apartment, Destroys Valuables in FCT Community

13 January 2026

Fire gutted an apartment and destroyed valuables in the Bako community of Kwali Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The owner of the property, Dauda Idris, narrated the incident to our reporter on Sunday, stating that the fire broke out on Saturday around 10.23 am.

He explained that he was not at home when the incident occurred, but received calls from his neighbours informing him that his apartment was on fire.

Idris said his wife and children were inside the house when the fire started from the ceiling, adding that the resulting inferno burnt down valuable property, including electronic gadgets, his wares, and clothing belonging to his family.

Idris rushed back home immediately after receiving the calls but was unable to salvage any property due to the intensity of the flames.

He noted that neighbours assisted in putting out the fire with buckets of water.

He expressed gratitude to God that no life was lost and no injuries were recorded.

Regarding the cause of the incident, Idris said he could not yet ascertain how it started and noted that no fire service personnel was available to assist in battling the blaze.

He said, "There was electricity at the time of the incident. However, according to my neighbours, they only saw smoke billowing from the roof of the apartment.
