Political analyst Gerald Kagambirwe Karyeija has expressed confidence in the Electoral Commission's (EC) preparedness for Uganda's 2026 general elections, noting that the commission has had ample time to organize and plan the electoral process.
Speaking to the media, Karyeija highlighted that the EC has spent the past five years laying the groundwork for the elections, from logistics and staffing to the deployment of voting equipment.
"The Electoral Commission has five years to organise an election. They have been doing preparations and they have told us they are ready," Karyeija said.
While acknowledging the EC's preparedness, Karyeija noted that any inconsistencies or minor issues at polling stations are likely the result of individual oversights rather than systemic failures.
"If there are any inconsistencies, it's because someone didn't do their work well," he added.
Election observers say that careful planning and early preparations are critical to ensuring a smooth, transparent, and credible voting process. Analysts emphasize that prompt resolution of minor logistical issues will help maintain public confidence in the outcome.
The EC has repeatedly assured voters and stakeholders that all materials, including voting equipment and staff, are in place and that the process is being closely monitored. Authorities continue to urge citizens to participate peacefully and adhere to the rules governing polling day.
As Uganda heads into the elections, political analysts like Karyeija say that the combination of long-term preparations and vigilant oversight will be key to delivering a credible electoral exercise nationwide.
