The Benue Rescue and Rebuild Mission governorship campaign has continued to consolidate its structures with the appointment of Chief Jerry Aondo (SAN) as acting director and head of the Legal Directorate.
The decision, approved by governorship hopeful, Prof. Sebastian Tar Hon, SAN (Semawan-u-Tiv), reflects a deliberate strategy to fortify the campaign's legal and advocacy machinery ahead of the 2027 elections.
Aondo, a seasoned lawyer and prominent human rights activist, was elevated to the prestigious rank of SAN on October 1, 2024, by the Chief Justice of Nigeria. His appointment is widely seen as a major boost to the campaign, given his reputation for legal excellence and his longstanding commitment to defending fundamental rights.
The Legal Directorate under Aondo is expected to play a pivotal role in providing campaign advisory services, coordinating inter-agency advocacy, and pursuing litigation in cases where opponents deliberately infringe on the rights of the project. Beyond these responsibilities, he will also oversee the recruitment of other distinguished legal practitioners to strengthen the Directorate's capacity and ensure that the campaign remains firmly grounded in the principles of justice and fairness.
