Liberia: G. Capemount Legislative Caucus Launches Road Rehabilitation

Grand Cape Mount County took a major step toward improved connectivity and development on Saturday, January 17, 2026, as Senator Simeon Boima Taylor led members of the county Legislative Caucus to officially launch extensive road rehabilitation works in the Porkpa and Tewor districts.

The long-overdue road reconditioning project, which stretches across key sections of the county, is being sponsored by Bea Mountain Mining Corporation (BMMC), one of Liberia's leading mining companies with major operations in the area. The initiative is expected to ease transportation difficulties, enhance access to markets and social services, and stimulate economic activities in affected communities.

Speaking at the dedication ceremony of newly acquired earth-moving equipment for the project, BMMC Deputy Manager Emere Kuyou, reaffirmed the company's commitment to improving the lives of citizens in Grand Cape Mount County and contributing meaningfully to Liberia's infrastructure development.

Kuyou emphasized that the people of Grand Cape Mount deserve reliable and durable road networks, noting that BMMC remains committed to fulfilling its corporate social responsibility to host communities where it operates.

Senator Taylor, the chief advocate of the road rehabilitation effort, praised Bea Mountain Mining Corporation for responding to the long-standing concerns of the people.

He urged the company to continue supporting government development efforts by repairing roads that have remained in deplorable condition for several years.

"If these roads are fixed, our people will be happy, but if they are not, we take the blame," Senator Taylor stated, underscoring the shared responsibility between lawmakers and development partners.

He added that BMMC's smooth operation in the county depends largely on its willingness to support surrounding communities through meaningful infrastructure projects.

The senator further called on residents, traditional leaders, and stakeholders across the county to unite in pursuit of additional development initiatives.

He disclosed that the road corridor from Sarno Town through the Mano River area to Benduma will become fully passable upon completion of the ongoing rehabilitation works.

In separate remarks, Senator Dabbah Manbande Varpilah, Representative Gbessey Sonnie, and Bintu Massalay also commended Bea Mountain Mining Corporation for its intervention and encouraged the company to expand its development footprint throughout Grand Cape Mount County.

Porkpa and Tewor districts host major operations of Bea Mountain Mining Corporation, making the road rehabilitation effort critical not only to community development but also to sustaining economic activities and improving livelihoods across the county.
