Nigeria: National Grid Records First Collapse in 2026

23 January 2026

Nigeria's electricity grid has recorded its first collapse of 2026 with generation recording 20 megawatts as at 1 pm on Friday 23.

Checks on the platform of the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) shows that only OMOKU gas power plant was the only generating plant and the drop was from the 3,996.93 megawatts on the grid around 12 pm.

This is coming less than 3 weeks after the grid experienced partial collapse in December, 2025.
