The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday formally received Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, into the party, assuring him of full support ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Governor Mutfwang, who resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in December last year, said his decision was informed by prevailing political realities and his desire to deepen service delivery and governance through a platform he believes offers wider opportunities.
Presenting the APC flag to the governor at the Polo Field in Jos, the party's National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said Mutfwang's entry into the party was accepted in good faith, assuring him of the party's backing for a second term.
"Come 2027, President Tinubu will win Plateau overwhelmingly. Come 2027, Governor Caleb Mutfwang will win Plateau. I am assuring Governor Mutfwang that we are taking him back to the Government House. You are going to win as governor of Plateau state. I will stand by you. I will support you. I will make sure everything it takes to bring you back to the government house in 2027. I will make sure Plateau becomes one party state," Nentawe said.

Vice President Kashim Shettima described Mutfwang's decision as a demonstration of unity and collaboration, saying it would strengthen Plateau's development through closer ties with the Federal Government. He urged Plateau residents to support the APC and embrace peaceful coexistence for collective progress.
"We are not a party in crisis. We have been able to come this far because we believe in the philosophy of team building that see diversity as a strength, and that see every voice as part of the choice for progress," Shettima said.
Apart from the Vice President, the event drew top political figures, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Senate President Godswill Akpabio and his deputy, Senator Barau Jibrin; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; APC governors; and other party leaders.
In his remarks, Mutfwang said President Bola Tinubu personally invited him to join the APC, adding that Vice President Shettima, Senate President Akpabio and Speaker Abbas also encouraged his move.
"This journey will reposition Plateau as a winning state in future elections. We will support President Tinubu's re-election in 2027 because of his commitment to taking Nigeria to the next level," he said. The governor described his move as a "realignment" rather than defection, aimed at strategically positioning Plateau State to enjoy greater dividends of democracy.
