Nigeria: 'Why Engineers Must Embrace Innovation to Boost Economy'

The newly inaugirated chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) Engr. Babagana Modu Tela has urged engineers to embrace innovation to drive growth in the economy.

Engr. Tela, who is the 17th National Chairman in his inauguration address with the theme: "Engineered for Progress: A New Era of Innovation and Inclusion", said his tenure will be defined by commitment to excellence because mechanical engineers are industries of innovation.

To ensure NIMechE remains at the forefront of Nigerian technological evolution, "This administration shall focus on influence contribution to national development, professional growth, innovation and collaboration, membership welfare and sustainability and will focus on the TEAM Agenda, which is Technical advancement, Empowerment membership and mentorship, Advocacy and publicity influence, and Membership welfare.

"Technical relevance, influence and contribution to national policy, professional development, membership drive and growth, young engineers development, networking collaboration and partnership, development of standards, improvement of functionality of secretariat, NiMech office complex and greater publicity, enhancement of peace and cordiality, improved relationship among chapters, sustenance of key relevant governance of previous leadership". He said

He also called on members to work together to engineer a better Nigeria, and urged partners to join and support as well as uphold professional standards and move the institution to greater heights.
