According to him, the new vice chancellor beat the other contestants with the highest margin to emerge as the substantive vice chancellor of the university.

Prof. Aderounmu added that the appointment was based on merit and his excellent performance in the selection process, which culminated with his appointment as the new chancellor.

Ja'afaru is a professor of Environmental Microbiology in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences at the Modibbo Adama University (MAU) in Yola, Adamawa state.

He served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the MAU, where he was responsible for overseeing the university's administrative operations.

In June 2024, following the expiration of the then previous Vice-Chancellor's tenure, the University Governing Council appointed him as the Acting Vice-Chancellor.

He led the university in an acting capacity until July 2024, when he formally handed over the leadership to Professor Ibrahim Umar, who assumed office as the 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor.

During his brief sting, he has been recognised within the university community for his administrative competence and leadership during transition periods.
