The Gombe State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Livestock Innovation Corporation (LIC) of New Zealand to modernise livestock production, strengthen climate resilience and unlock new economic opportunities across the sector.
The agreement followed a two-day technical visit to LIC's innovation facilities in Hamilton by a Gombe State delegation led by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, providing a framework for collaboration on data-driven livestock management systems, climate-smart and sustainable production practices.
In a statement by the governor's director-general on press affairs, Isma'ila Uba Misilli, under the MoU, both parties will also pursue joint research initiatives, with potential partnerships involving Gombe State University, and explore opportunities in genetics and biotechnology, including the possible introduction of New Zealand dairy and beef genetics.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Yahaya described the partnership as a major boost to Gombe State's agricultural transformation agenda, noting that innovation remains central to improving productivity and resilience in the livestock sector.
