Nigeria: Another Zamfara Guber Hopeful Protests Exclusion From APC Membership Registration

4 February 2026

A governorship hopeful in Zamfara state for the 2027 general election, Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has kicked against his exclusion from the ongoing nationwide electronic registration and revalidation of membership of the All Progressives Congress(APC).

Shinkafi, a former national secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said this while addressing journalists after he stormed the party's national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday to meet with the APC national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

LEADERSHIP reports that another governorship aspirant in Zamfara state, Hon. Aminu Sani-Jaji, had raised alarm that he and his supporters under the auspices of Jajiya political movement were allegedly denied participation in the exercise by some party chieftains who are scared of his future political chances.

Similarly, Shinkafi told journalists that he and members of his political movement, Wambai Shinkafi Democratic, which cut across the 14 local government areas of Zamfara state, had been shut out of the APC e-registration by some top brass of the party.

He said APC in Zamfara state is in tatters, slumbering and facing a serious crisis, insisting that without the national chairman and President Bola Tinubu's immediate intervention, the party cannot win any meaningful election in 2027.

The APC chieftain called for the immediate removal of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to save the party from going extinct in Zamfara state.

"Removing Matawale from the federal executive council is not a bad deal because he is the one who is hatching acts of hatred, disunity, lack of cohesion, fragmentation and sponsoring party wrongdoing and violence.

"So, it's not a bad deal for the party to remain intact and also for the party to win the election. Mr President has to put the house in order in Zamfara state.

"I have a political structure or political movement called Wambai Shinkafi Democratic Front. And we have a membership that spans the 14 local government areas and 14 electoral wards in Zamfara state.

"All these, our members have not been registered because I have declared my support publicly and endorsed Mr President for a second term in 2027 and also declared my intention to run for the office of governor come 2027," he added.
