Nigeria: Artistes 'Not Allowed to Hold Shows During Ramadan in Nigeria', Singer Fave Cries Out

4 February 2026

Nigerian singer Chidozie Godsfavour Ugochinyere, popularly known as Fave, has raised concerns over an alleged directive preventing artistes from holding shows in Nigeria during the Islamic month of Ramadan.

The singer said her plan to host a show on her birthday, March 13, was facing obstacles because it coincides with Ramadan.

Taking to X, Fave wrote, "So I was tryna do a show in Nigeria on my birthday this year but they're telling me shows aren't allowed during Ramadan? I'm a little confused."

In a follow-up post, the singer shared that promoters have repeatedly declined her proposed show because it falls during the month of Ramadan, when Muslim fast for a month preceeding the eid-el-ftr festival.

She noted that the observance of Ramadan should not affect her or her business, emphasising that she is a Christian and only became aware of Ramadan practices in her late teens.

"I started this year wanting to do my first show in Nigeria on my birthday as an independent artiste and back to back, promoters kept sending word to my team saying the same thing.

"I grew up in the South and never heard of Ramadan practices till I was in my late teens. I respect all religions. But I'm Christian and I really want to do this on my birthday, so if you're reading this and are open to organise, I'd be so happy," she said.
