Nigeria: Infrastructural Will Boost Economies of FCT Satellite Towns - Wike

9 February 2026

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that the ongoing massive infrastructural development in FCT satellite towns will significantly boost economic activities in those areas.

Wike made this disclosure on Friday after inspecting several ongoing road projects in Karu, Bwari, Kubwa, and the Apo-Karshi road in Abuja.

He explained that this development follows President Bola Tinubu's directives to extend the road network beyond the city center to the satellite towns. According to the Minister, this move is designed to not only stimulate commerce but also improve the overall living conditions of the residents.

Focus on Local Quality and Terminated Contracts

During the tour, Wike noted that the roads within Karu have been reconstructed by an indigenous company, praising the contractor for delivering high-quality work.

The Minister also visited the long-awaited Apo-Karshi road, which he described as one of the "very important" projects at the heart of the Tinubu administration. He explained that the road, originally awarded in 2010, had faced over a decade of setbacks.

"Due to the importance of that road, we couldn't wait any longer for the previous contractor's excuses," Wike said. "We sought the permission of Mr. President, terminated that contract, and re-awarded it to SCC. You can see how serious the company is--just look at the type of equipment they have on-site."

Stimulating Commerce

Wike also highlighted the Bwari-Kubwa and Gbazango-Kubwa roads as major infrastructural milestones that will revitalize the local economy. Specifically, he noted that the 16-17 kilometer Bwari-Kubwa road is expected to ease traffic congestion and stimulate trade along that axis.

"There is massive infrastructural development going on in both the city and the satellite towns. Of course, the economy will change and people will be very happy," Wike added. "I am glad we have the opportunity to support Mr. President in achieving his 'Renewed Hope Agenda."' (NAN)
