The Yobe State Government has lifted the midnight curfew to allow residents, particularly Muslims, to observe the holy month of Ramadan in peace and without restrictions.

The Special Adviser to the governor on Security Matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), disclosed this to newsmen after a security meeting chaired by the state Deputy Governor, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana.

Abdulsalam said the State Security Council considered the relaxation necessary to allow Muslims to carry out their religious activities smoothly during the fasting period.

He explained that the Council reviewed the security situation across the state and resolved to strengthen preventive measures throughout Ramadan.

According to him, Ramadan is characterised by various religious activities, including preaching, seminars, congregational prayers, iftar, and Qiyamul Lail, many of which extend late into the night and require the presence of security agencies.

He noted that the security meeting was convened to assess and analyse the security situation across the state and to ensure that citizens observe the 30 days of Ramadan peacefully, with their lives and property adequately protected.

The Security Adviser further explained that during such periods, some criminal elements may attempt to disguise themselves to perpetrate unlawful acts.

He appealed to residents of the state to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible information to sustain the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.

Abdulsalam also expressed concern over illegal mining activities in the Gulani axis of Gulani Local Government Area, stressing that security agencies are already on top of the situation.
