Nigeria: Khairun VC Receives Sarkin Sumaila On Courtesy Visit

18 February 2026

The Vice-Chancellor of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, Kano (KHAIRUN), Prof. Abdulrashid Garba, on Monday received the Emir of Sumaila, Alhaji Bello Muhammad Dan Sumaila, on a courtesy visit to his office.

In his remarks, the Sarkin Sumaila congratulated the vice-chancellor on his appointment as the pioneer VC of the university and commended the remarkable progress recorded under his leadership within a short period.

A statement by the Director, Corporate Affairs and Marketing of the university, Bilal Dahiru Tijjani, quoted the emir offering prayers for the continued growth and success of the institution.

Responding, Professor Abdulrashid appreciated the visit and the kind words of the traditional ruler, noting that the university values the support and goodwill of community leaders and stakeholders. He reaffirmed KHAIRUN's commitment to providing quality education and contributing positively to society.

Daily Trust reports that the institution was named in honour of Sheikh Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu, a prominent Islamic scholar, businessman and philanthropist from Kano, whose lifelong passion for education laid the philosophical foundation for its creation.

The university's establishment stems from a vision to expand access to quality higher education, particularly in northern Nigeria, where competition for limited university places has historically left many prospective students without opportunities.
